Annoyed by Christmas in Stores Already? Blame these One Million People
You're already behind the curve if you don't start thinking about Christmas shopping until after Thanksgiving.
According to a new report by CreditCards.com, 34 million people have already started their Christmas shopping and one million claim they've already finished it.
"It really is pretty amazing that so many people have finished their holiday shopping so quickly," Matt Schulz, senior industry analyst for CreditCards.com., said. "Some people wear that as a badge of honor."
If that statistic makes you feel a little bit like Scrooge, you're not alone -- 73 percent of Americans are annoyed by the early holiday shopping season.
Retailers say those holiday sales start earlier to meet the demands of their customers.
"If the consumers are asking for holiday products earlier in the year, you are more than likely to see retailers start having a small assortment by late summer and build up their inventory as we move into the holiday season," said Ana Serafin Smith, spokeswoman for the National Retail Federation, a trade group. "It is natural that retailers are reacting to this trend."
Surprisingly, the preferred method of shopping remains in stores, with 58 percent of consumers preferring to make the trip over online shopping.
Not surprisingly, Millennials are most excited to shop via mobile devices. One in five people ages 18-35 say that will be their primary way to shop.
Younger people are also embracing the trend of getting an early start on shopping. About a third of Millennial's are totally unfazed by starting Christmas shopping in September.
