Brunei's government is no longer allowing churches under the Christian religion to expand in their country.

The small country is home to around 400,000 people, where 67 percent are practicing Muslims, 13 percent are Buddhist, and 10 percent are Christian.

"The government will no longer issue new permits for the construction of churches but the ones completed earlier can still be retained," a Christian couple from Brunei said. thestar.com

Meeting halls were allowed to remain, but they cannot be developed into full-fledged churches.

There are many rules restricting Christians in Brunei. If a non-Muslim preaches to another Muslim or atheist, he or she could be fined or face up to five years in prison. Christians are also not allowed to use the Malay version of the Bible.

Christmas cards are against the law because they are considered "offensive" to Muslims and Valentine's Day is prohibited overall.
