Residents in Augusta Will 'March For Jesus'

When Christians come together in unity it makes a powerful statement, and thousands will gather in Augusta, Georgia, Oct. 22, to take a stand for Jesus.

In the second annual "March for Jesus Augusta," church-goers will join together to worship, pray and share the Gospel.

"This is not a protest march," Augusta resident Cleve Walker said. "It is a proclamation march... simply to say that there are many, many people around the CSRA who honor the Name of Jesus."

"There's been such unity that has come between the churches," Dorothy Spaulding said of the event last year. "We had red and yellow, black and white. It was just wonderful. When you see them raising their hands and just praising the Lord or you see them putting arms around each other... they were hugging each other, praying for each other. It was awesome."

Spaulding is the creator and organizer of the event, which brings together a wide variety of churches and denominations from the Augusta area. Last year 12,000 people participated.

Spaulding told CBN News that the vision for this event began one day in prayer. She said the Lord spoke to her.

"(He said) 'I want you gather the people together and march down the street proclaiming My name,'" she said.

Spaulding explained that after setting the date for the event everything fell into place.

"It was the most glorious day," she added. "You could feel the presence of the Lord all through the streets."

This year several Christian motorcycle groups will join the processions of singers, dancers, and worshippers. There also will be two prayer and praise rallies, where people dance in the streets.

Arthur Blessit, known for carrying the cross around the world, will be joined by Russell Spaulding to carry a cross through the entire procession.

"Last year we have 400 who gave their hearts to the Lord," Spaulding said. "This year we are believing for double that and we are believing for double the people coming."

Spaulding said her expectations are high but simple. She just wants to show the love of Jesus.

"Last year we had two protestors and when the paper interviewed them they said they've never felt such love," she explained. "That's' what we want to do, show the love of Jesus and that he's all about love and that people's lives can really be changed through his love."

Spaulding's prayer for the week's event is even more simple--no rain.

"We're praying that we have a wonderful day," she said. "I'm believing people are going to come and people are going to have a wonderful time."
