The community of Townville, South Carolina, came together Wednesday morning donned in superhero costumes to honor the life of young Jacob Hall.

The 6-year-old fought for his life last week after a bullet struck him in the main artery in his leg, causing a major brain injury due to the loss of blood. He passed away Saturday.

At his parents' request, guests arrived dressed up as superheroes to celebrate the life of their son, whose tiny body lay in a blue casket.

Young children from Townville Elementary school packed the pews as Ninja Turtle characters, Superman and other heros. Many others wore superhero t-shirts.

One guest arrived in a full batman uniform and spoke about the impact Jacob will have on the community.

"Six years ago a child was born whose purpose would be to show us how to do it right. We had no idea how that purpose would be fulfilled but he knew that it was going to happen," he said. "May a 6-year-old boy become such a part of our lives that the rest of the community knows what hope is about."

Jacob's parents, Renae and Rodger Hall, released a statement prior to the funeral.

"Jacob came into our lives six years and four months ago and changed it completely. He showed us how to love, laugh and smile even on days we did not want to," the statement read. "God gave him to us and he was taken away from us by a senseless act.

"We know that Jacob has already forgiven this child for what he did to him and his family because that's the kind of child he was," it continued. "Jacob was sent to this earth for this short a period of time to show us that there is such a thing as pure love. Jacob is in heaven with God now and everyone who loves him. Words cannot express how much we will miss him."

During the eulogy, the pastor presiding over the service acknowledged an integral theme found in all superhero stories, good winning over evil.

"Our God is a good God and he will take care of us. God's gonna watch over us and a superhero story is about good versus evil....the good always wins," he commented. "I want to tell you we live in a dark world, but the good is gonna win. Jesus Christ is coming."
