Americans Pessimistic about the Nation's Future

More than 60 percent say the country is heading in the wrong direction, a new NBC/Wall Street Journal poll shows.

About 68 percent say they think the country is either stagnant or worse off since President Barack Obama took office. Eighty-one percent say they disapprove of Congress.

When describing the work taking place in Washington the words used most in the survey were "divided," "troubled," and "deteriorating."
