A congressional leader is denouncing the gay activist protests that forced Mozilla's new CEO to resign last week.

CEO Brendan Eich stepped down from Mozilla, which runs the Firefox Internet browser, after being attacked by a throng of online critics over a $1,000 contribution he made in 2008 supporting California's ban on same-sex marriage.

Rep. Frank Wolf, R-Va., says Americans should not be "demonized" over what remains a deeply held religious conviction for many.

The Republican congressman noted that when Eich made his donation, even liberal presidential candidate Barack Obama said he believed marriage should be defined as being between a man and a woman.

Wolf says America was founded on principles of free speech and freedom of religion and "has never been defined by mob rule."
