More unmarried Americans are moving in together as a result of pregnancy instead of getting married.

Statistics show that for the first time, fewer couples that become pregnant are choosing a so-called "shotgun marriage."

The National Center for Health Statistics reports about 18 percent of all single women who became pregnant opted to move in with their boyfriends.

Only five percent chose marriage after getting pregnant.
