An advisory committee is recommending Oregon drop its problem-plagued online health exchange and replace it with HealthCare.gov.

The Cover Oregon board is expected to take up the panel's recommendation Friday.

Cover Oregon official Alex Pettit estimates fixing the existing system would cost about $78 million and take too long to fix.

Making the switch to the federal system would cost the state $4 million to $6 million.

With that option, Oregon would use HealthCare.gov for private policies, but continue using its current system for Medicaid enrollments.
