Coast Guard lieutenant Christopher Paul Hasson appears in federal court today on several charges for gun and drug offenses, accused of being "a domestic terrorist."

The filing comes after authorities found a draft letter to a neo-Nazi leader identifying himself as a white nationalist who wanted to "establish a white homeland." Federal agents found 15 firearms and over 1,000 rounds of ammunition inside his Silver Spring, Maryland apartment.

The court filing says Hasson desired to "murder innocent civilians on a scale rarely seen in this country" according to Fox News.

Prosecutors say Hasson gained extremist beliefs from regularly reading a manifesto by far-right extremist Anders Behring Breivik who is known for terror attacks in 2011 that resulted in 77 deaths.

Officials found an email draft where Hasson said he was "looking to Russia with hopeful eyes or any land that despises the west's liberalism."

"Dreaming of a way to kill almost every last person on earth," wrote Hasson. "I think a plague would be most successful but how do I acquire the needed Spanish flu, botulism, anthrax. Not sure yet but will find something."

In February 2018, Hasson Googled "most liberal senators," "do senators have SS (Secret Service) protection" and "are Supreme Court justices protected." According to the court filing, Hasson prepared a spreadsheet of his potential targets.

The list was compiled into three categories: A, B, and C. Category A includes 2020 Democratic presidential candidates Sen. Elizabeth Warren (MA), Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (NY), Sen. Cory Booker (NJ) and Sen. Kamala Harris (CA). Other notable targets are House Majority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY). Category B includes Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), and CNN personalities Chris Cuomo and Van Jones.

Hasson served at the Coast Guard's headquarters in Washington since 2016. The acquisitions officer originally served in the Marine Corps and the Army National Guard.

"An active duty Coast Guard member stationed at Coast Guard Headquarters in Washington, DC, was arrested last week on illegal weapons and drug charges as a result of an ongoing investigation led by Coast Guard Investigation Services, in cooperation with the FBI and the Dept. of Justice," Coast Guard spokesman Lt. Cmdr. Scott McBride said in a statement. "Because this is an open investigation, the Coast Guard has no further details at this time."
