A coalition of ministries are working together to bring a prayer movement to nearly 5,000 college campuses Thursday. InterVarsity Christian Fellowship is heading up the effort called Collegiate Day of Prayer.

The organization says the day is set aside to ask God to pour out his Spirit on colleges and seminaries across the country.

Since 1823, Collegiate Day of Prayer has been happening on college campuses. Multiple revivals have been reported on several campuses throughout the years. The revivals have "radically transformed the culture and moral climate of many of our largest universities," according to the website.

"Many of our campus chapters have had the tradition of a daily prayer meeting, and campus ministry prayer requests are communicated with thousands of ministry partners on a monthly basis," said InterVarsity President Tom Lin. "Since the beginning of InterVarsity's campus ministry, more than 75 years ago, united prayer has been fundamental, not supplemental, to our work on campus."

The effort stems from InterVarsity's mission to "reach every corner of every campus." The organization has established almost 700 chapters on campuses.

On their website, InterVarsity shares of a 2030 calling given by God.

"But did you know that of the 2,500 US college campuses (with 1,000+ students), more than half have no known campus ministry presence?" the website states. "God has given InterVarsity the 2030 Calling, to reach all 2,500 campuses by the year 2030."
