The new film "12 Strong" tells an unbelievable true story of heroism many Americans have never heard.

In the wake of the September 11th terror attacks, America's military sent a Special Forces team of only 12 men into Afghanistan on an extremely dangerous mission.

Those soldiers found themselves in an uneasy partnership with Afghan warlords to take down the Taliban and its Al-Qaeda allies.

The men were outgunned and outnumbered in the face overwhelming odds in a fight against a ruthless enemy.

It was once a classified mission. And it was first shared in Doug Stanton's book Horse Soldiers.

The film "12 Strong" is based on the facts shared in the book, and accounts from the soldiers themselves.

Chris Hemsworth plays the role of Captain Mitch Nelson in the film, produced by Jerry Bruckheimer.

CBN News' Studio 5 sat down with Bruckheimer and the stars of the movie.

In interviews about the film, Hemsworth shared, "I thought I knew what happened the following weeks, but I didn't. I was fascinated by this story."

The film also stars Michael Shannon, Michael Pena, Trevante Rhodes, Thad Luckinbill and Rob Riggle.

It hits theaters January 19, 2018.
