Officials in El Salvador are investigating the murders of six evangelical church members.

The victims, aged 16 to 54, were found shot to death Saturday night in a state near the border with Guatemala.

Press reports say they were riddled with bullets.

So far, investigators have no clues as to why the church members were targeted.

Armed gangs control rural areas of the Central American nation and are blamed for the country's high murder rate.
