Gunfire in an army barracks disturbed the fragile peace in Juba, South Sudan, earlier this week.

Five South Sudan soldiers are dead and hundreds of others under arrest after their demand for back pay escalated into violence.

A spokesman for the South Sudan military said the dispute wasn't political and would not spread.

"This is purely an issue of salaries," Brig. Gen. Malaak Ayuen said. "It is not political and will not spread. Soldiers have not been paid since January, why I don't know, and went to the commander seeking answers."

Meanwhile, government and rebel negotiators continue peace talks in Ethiopia.

The peace has held long enough to allow some international aid agencies, including Franklin Graham's Samaritan's Purse, to return to Juba.

CBN News spoke with Ken Issacs, vice president of International Projects and Government Relations for Samaritan's Purse, about the situation in South Sudan, on CBN News Today, March 7.
