The Muslim Brotherhood will never return to Egypt, according to Egyptian presidential hopeful Abdel Fatah el-Sisi.

The former military chief, who removed the Brotherhood's Islamist President Mohammed Morsi last summer after millions of Egyptians protested against him, is almost certain to win the presidency in the upcoming election.

In the first television interview of his campaign, broadcast on Egypt's satellite networks, el-Sisi said it's not him who is finished with the Brotherhood but rather the Egyptian people.

"I did not finish [the Brotherhood]. You Egyptians finished it…There will be nothing called the Muslim Brotherhood during my tenure," said el-Sisi, who has reportedly survived two attempted assassinations since Morsi's ouster last July.

"I believe in fate," he told his television interviewers. "I am not afraid."

The former field marshal says his decision to run for president is in response to the Egyptian people and his desire to restore the nation's former place in the region and in the world community.

Presidential elections are set for May 26-27, with legislative elections to follow, though a date has yet to be set.
