The U.S.-led coalition is ramping up its offensive against ISIS in Syria.

According to an activist group, the coalition carried out more than a dozen airstrikes in and around northeastern Syria where the Islamic State's de facto capitol is located.

The air raids hit areas on the outskirts of the city of Raqqa, along the Euphrates River.

The offensive marks the heaviest round of coalition strikes on the city since ISIS captured a Jordanian pilot after his F-16 went down near Raqqa on Christmas Eve.

No reports have indicated whether anyone was killed.
