Witnesses of a suicide bombing at a crowded outdoor market in Nigeria at first thought the bomber was female. A police expert later identified the perpetrator as male.

At least 10 people in the northeastern city of Maiduguri were killed in the bombing.

Friday's attack came a day after the Nigerian Defense Ministry appointed a military official to help curb the ongoing Islamic uprising.

The Boko Haram terror group has killed hundreds of people in suicide bombings since Nigerians elected a new president who vowed to crack down on terrorism.

Last month, a suicide bomber attack killed at least 20 people at the same outdoor market.

On a positive note, Nigerian soldiers rescued 71 civilians, mostly women and girls, kidnapped by Boko Haram. According to their report, many terrorists were killed and their camps destroyed in three villages near Maiduguri.

During the past six years, Boko Haram has killed at least 20,000 Nigerians and driven nearly 2 million others from their homes.
