Eighty-eight Eritrean Christians from Libya are being held captive by Islamic State jihadists.

Fox News reports the terror group kidnapped the victims from a people-smugglers caravan last week. A U.S. defense official confirmed the report.

Meron Estafanos is an international rights activist and co-founder of the International Commission on Eritrean Refugees headquartered in Stockholm.

She told Fox the ISIS fighters demanded Muslims and Christians to identify themselves, asking them questions about the Koran and Islamic observance.

Then they put many of the Christians on a truck and took them to an unknown location.
