Manager of Application Development



Application Services – Virginia Beach, VA

The Manager of Application Development is responsible for providing technology development and QA leadership in the application and integration domains. These applications span multiple business domains including Marketing, Call Center Management, Customer Relationship Management, Customer Servicing, Operations and others.  The position is accountable for delivering solutions that ensure compatibility and integration with company strategies and divisional business plans while establishing standards and guidelines for improving the applications delivery and support processes.
A major focus of this role will be to support our emerging digital business.  A major driver to a successful digital business strategy will be the adoption of cloud computing.  This leader is faced with the challenge of growing and leading a team of developers to deliver critical technical solutions that support the technical architecture. Success criteria for this position includes the ability to maximize the efficiency and maintainability of software systems, keep abreast of new technologies and incorporate those technologies when appropriate.  This position will demonstrate effective leadership by motivating the Applications staff to continually improve the competencies and capabilities of the organization.

This position will be responsible for the Quality Assurance strategies employed by IT.  This position will manage the team of Quality Analysts and will establish the tools and practices to leverage automated testing techniques, combined with managed QA tactics to ensure quality objectives are defined and achieved.  The resources will be assigned to project teams where they will be expected to deliver solutions in an agile and iterative manner.

This is a management position with direct reporting responsibility for the application development and quality assurance staff.  Additionally, this position will participate in the broader departmental leadership representing technical development and QA on the PMO team.

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications:

  • Experience within the areas of Marketing Automation, Customer Relationship Management, Internet, Call Center, Workflow Management, Application Integration, Data Warehouse and/or Document Management technologies.
  • Bachelor’s degree plus a minimum of 5-7 years in progressively more responsible positions managing software delivery, application development, package integration and process methodology functions.
  • Experience with application architecture strategies pertaining to middleware, integration, network, client server, internet, cloud technologies, and data base management system design and implementation.
  • Experience with business requirements gathering and analysis.
  • Knowledge of IT governance and operations.
  • Proven experience with application architecture and systems design.
  • Experience establishing technical governance models.
  • Experience with the introduction of new technologies and standards in a mature IT environment.
  • Ability to conduct research into emerging technologies and IT practices.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral. Must be able to convey complex technical concepts to an audience with a broad range of technical understanding.
  • Mature interpersonal and leadership skills – servant leadership, collaboration, facilitation, and negotiation.
  • Proven ability as a motivator and mentor.
