Two Things to Totally Forget

Once you have given your whole heart to Jesus, guilt from the past cannot plague your mind with regret. If it does happen, it is not God’s doing. It’s the enemy, plain and simple. The devil will try to badger and harass you with thoughts of God’s displeasure, but that is a flat out lie. You are fully accepted in Christ.

There are two things that you must totally forget. God has forgotten them and He wants you to forget them too. Can you guess what they are?

1) Your Sins: Any act, thought, or way of behaving that is contrary to God’s Word.

2) Your Iniquity: Any continued sin or sin that has become a habit.

The moment that you repent or turn from wrongdoing and align your heart with God’s Word, God’s will, and God’s ways, something powerful happens: God totally forgets.

How can God forgive and totally forget? Jesus’ blood. When Jesus died on Calvary’s Cross, He stood in your place. He took your sins and iniquities upon Himself and said, “Father, forgive them…” (Luke 23:34).

To be forgiven means that you have been pardoned. It’s to be excused from blame.

Yes, God knows how icky your sin was. It’s true that nothing is hidden from His sight. The Bible warns clearly about the consequences of sin.

For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Romans 6:23, TLB

When you ask the Lord Jesus to cause your heart and hands to be pure before Him, He makes a special promise to you.

He has removed our sins as far away from us as the east is from the west. Psalm 103:12, TLB

Can you picture that? Our sins are blown away! They are power blasted out of God’s sight as far as the east is from the west. That’s a long way! East and west never meet. In other words, God never looks at your sin again. It’s gone.

In return, God’s desire is to enter into an agreement with you. Check out what He says to Israel, which also speaks to you and me as His believers today:

This is the brand-new covenant that I will make with Israel when the time comes. I will put my law within them—write it on their hearts!—and be their God. And they will be my people. They will no longer go around setting up schools to teach each other about God. They'll know me firsthand, the dull and the bright, the smart and the slow. I'll wipe the slate clean for each of them. I'll forget they ever sinned!" Jeremiah 31:33-34, The Message

Here’s the bottom line: God has totally forgotten the past. Now will you? Be free, and be faithful.
