Confessions of the "Not So Much" Christian

How impressive is it that God formed a plan to send His only Son to die for you!

There's nothing, not one thing that can keep the love of God from reaching you -- if you will open your heart to Him. Remember, you are "not so much" out of His reach!

"For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord." (Romans 8:38-39, NIV)

Practice these five "not so much" confessions every day for a stronger walk with God:

1. I am "not so much" alone because I have been chosen by God and adopted as His child. Anytime you're feeling blue take hold of the truth that the God of all creation tenderly loves you.

"In love He predestined us to be adopted as His sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with His pleasure and will--to the praise of his glorious grace, which He has freely given us in the One He loves." (Ephesians 1:5-6, NIV)

2. I am "not so much" a sinner because I have been redeemed and forgiven of all my sins. Nobody is perfect (expect Jesus), but we can honor His sacrifice as we turn from our sin and confess it. When we do so, we take a step towards righteous living.

"For He has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son He loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins." (Colossians 1:13-14, NIV)

3. I am "not so much" fearful because I have not been given a spirit of fear but of power, love, and a sound mind. Calling all phobias! Dread, panic, alarm, worry, and undue concern are not meant for you. If you sleep with a flashlight under your feather pillow, this confession will relieve your heart.

"For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline." (2 Timothy 1:7, NIV)

4. I am "not so much" ordinary because I am God's workmanship. God created you artfully. He skillfully made you. No one else is like you. The fact is: Your plain wonderful!

"For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." (Ephesians 2:10, NIV)

5. I am "not so much" powerless because I can do all things through Christ. No doubt about it, you're one tough cookie. When God made you, He built in extra resilience. You were made to take the heat.

"I can do everything through Him who gives me strength." (Philippians 4:13, NIV)

Be Confident in God’s Grace

As a "not so much" Christian, you are secure in God's grace. Grace is unmerited favor. There's nothing you or I can do to deserve the outpouring of blessing we know in Christ. The degree to which God's love is given to us is without measure.

God's answer for you is "‘yes, come unto me,’ ‘yes, call upon me,’ and ‘yes, I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.’" (Jeremiah 33:3)

What are some of your "not so much" confessions?
