Trump and Phares on Brussels Terror

03-22-2016

Last November it was Paris. One month later it happened in San Bernardino. Today Islamic terrorists struck again, this time near the European Parliament in Brussels.

This morning, presidential frontrunner Donald Trump told the hosts of Fox and Friends he's a pretty good prognosticator; a while ago he predicted another attack would occur--just like the one we saw today in Belgium. And Trump says more attacks will be coming because "we just don't learn."

"Watch what happens over the years. It won't be pretty," he said.

"The fact is that we have a situation, worldwide situation that is out of control," insisted Trump.

The GOP presidential frontrunner says some people may blame the United States and the West for the attacks, but he believes the terror is a result of liberal policies that have helped create the situation.

"It's not our fault, it's their fault." It's the result of "policies of people who don't know what they are doing. We as a country have to learn what is going on...we are lax and we are foolish."

So, what is The Donald's fix?

"My message is we better get smart and we better get smart fast"... We "have to check Muslims very, very carefully. It's time to be smart, it's time to look carefully. People will come in (to the United States), but we have to be very, very careful about who comes in."

Dr. Walid Phares is advising Trump on terrorism and foreign policy. He told the Fox and Friends hosts the Brussels attacks were strategic strikes against the Western world.

"The jihadists are trying to send a message...it's highly symbolic." They used that metro station because it is as busy as "5th Avenue in New York."

The Brussels metro station is used by staffers and members of the European Parliament.

Phares fears the attacks may have been part of a much larger terrorists operation. He says Belgium security forces have been deployed throughout the country to make sure other terrorist cells are not activated.

And he said his sources suggest officials in Belgium, France, and Netherlands are also protecting nuclear power plants.

"By nature they are targets of jihadists," Phares said. "If you don't have planes, or more conventional weapons, you attack these types of sites."

So, what does Phares think should be done now? He believes the ISIS "mother ship" needs to be taken out.

He says terror cells will continue to grow as long as the Islamic State has bases in Mosul (Iraq), Raqaa (Syria) and eastern Libya.

"Short of having a ground force that is trusted...we're not going anywhere," he said.

Some action may be forthcoming. Iraqi and U.S. forces are currently preparing for a major military assault against ISIS to liberate the city of Mosul.
