Latin Americans Support Israel

03-24-2016

As President Obama worked to imrpove relations with Cuba and Argentina, some members of Latin American parliaments went on record against boycotts and in support of Israel. Some of the MP's are from countries that have been somewhat unfriendly (if not hostile) in recent years toward the Jewish state..

The Jerusalem Post reports the lawmakers are from 13 Latin American and Caribbean countries. They recently signed a resolution stating that they "unequivocally declare, personally, our support for the Jewish people to live in peace, safety and security in the Land of Israel."

According to JP, the declaration reinforces the belief of the signatories that "strong relations between the Western Hemisphere and Israel are crucial to the spread of freedom, democracy and justice around the world."

But it's not just the 13 lawmakers who are warming up to Israel. The new Argentine government appears interested in improving relations. It has now stated that the death of Argentinian prosecutor Alberto Nisman was not a suicide.

The Israelis have long maintained that Nisman was assassinated because he was investigating a possible government cover-up of Iran's role in the 1994 bombing of a Jewish community center in Buenos Aires. The new government's admission that Nisman died by assassination will help improve the Argentina/Israel relationship.

I talked with Javier Bloanos, our CBN News Latin America producer for more insights.
