"Black Swan" Director Darren Aronofsky to Make "Noah" Movie

Paramount Pictures and New Regency Productions announced yesterday that they’ve tagged Academy Award nominated filmmaker Darren Aronofsky to occupy the director’s chair for Noah, their new project centering on the life of ark builder.

According to the studio's news release, the Black Swan director is thrilled with the partnership. “Since I was a kid, I have been moved and inspired by the story of Noah and his family's journey. The imaginations of countless generations have sparked to this epic story of faith. It's my hope that I can present a window into Noah's passion and perseverance for the silver screen,” Aronofsky says.

Rumors put actor Christian Bale in the role of Noah, but no final casting decisions have been made. Most widely known for his action roles, especially for his recent roles as Batman, the Oscar-winning Brit has the star power and experience (he’s been a film actor since he was 13) to hold a big movie such as this one.

Academy Award nominated screenwriter John Logan (Gladiator and The Aviator) is joining the team to rework the script originally written by Aronofsky and Ari Handel.

IMDb.com has the film slated for a 2014 release, so we’re still in the early stages of the movie-making process. However, the possibilities for this film are intriguing enough to keep my attention through the next few years. With a biblically sound script, this film could be impressive. We’ll just have to wait and see if Paramount and New Regency do this dramatic piece of Bible history justice.

The same can be said for legendary filmmaker Steven Spielberg’s “in development” project Gods and Kings, a Warner Bros. 2014 release about Moses. With these two major studios on board, it’s exciting to see what else Hollywood will reveal in the next few years when it comes to retelling Bible stories on the big screen.
