One of the Stupidest Things George Bush Ever Uttered…

…was that Islam is a religion of peace. He did so the week after 9/11 at a mosque in Washington, D.C. Yes, there are peaceful Muslims. I know some. Sufi Muslims are peaceful, as are Muslims who are not strict adherents to the Qu'ran.

But the Qur'an itself is not peaceful, so strict adherents to the Qur'an--those attempting to be good practicing Muslims, like the dead Boston Marathon bomber—will not have lasting peaceful intentions and cannot be classified as peaceful.

For some added academic oomph to this argument, we now have the work of Tina Magaard, who graduated from the Sorbonne in Paris with a PhD in Textual Analysis and Intercultural Communication after a three-year research project that compared the basic texts from 10 religions.

The study concluded that Islam is the most violent religion on Earth. She told the Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten that the Qur'an contains hundreds of calls to fight against unbelievers:

“The texts in Islam are clearly distinct from the other religious texts as they, to a much higher degree, call for violence and aggression against followers of other faiths. There are also direct incitements to terror. This has long been a taboo in Islam research, but it is a fact we have to acknowledge.”

Magaard is not the first expert to say this, just the latest.

About a year ago I sat in an Antwerp halal dive discussing what it means to be a true Muslim with one of Belgium’s most notorious Muslims, Abu Imran, who is now in prison.

He laid it out very simply: one can’t be half a Muslim or a new kind of democratic, Westernized, modern Muslim who only believes in part of the Qur'an. The Qu’ran is not interpreted in the same way the New and Old Testaments are understood.  True Muslims are to obey every word in the Qur'an as if it were the year 632 AD. And the Qur'an commands violence.

President Bush is a nice guy. But his foolish ideas about Islam likely played a role in the disastrous decision to allow the new Iraqi constitution to be based on the Qur'an.

It’s a decision that I personally thought bordered on the criminal. It mocked those Americans killed because of Qu’ran-inspired terrorism. And I believe it amounted to fraud against our fighting men and women who did not know they were giving their lives in the Iraq war for the establishment of an Islamic republic, following Saddam’s secular Baathist regime. Thanks to Bush’s folly, Iraq will continue to be plagued by Islamic-inspired, and not just tribal, terrorism.

Islam keeps people in religious and political bondage and inspires them to kill and rape and enslave. The only “peace” in Islam is the period after Islamic conquest. It’s not just my idea. It’s the word of yet another expert.
