Devout Muslim Crowned Prom Queen Just Miles from Terrorist Attack

05-06-2016

A devout Muslim has been crowned prom queen at a San Bernardino County high school that is just miles from the Islamic terrorist attack last year that killed 14 people and wounded 22 others.

Zarifeh Shalabi told The New York Times, "I'm not what someone thinks of when they think of a prom queen."

Shalabi wears a hijab or head covering every day as a sign of her Muslim religion.

She told CBSLA she was afraid to go outside after the San Bernardino attack because "some people see Muslims, all of us, as terrorists, even though terrorism isn't a religion."

The CBS reporter then said Shalabi was able to "move beyond the hate."

Okay, stop. Is it hate or is it factual that in 2016 most terrorists around the world are Muslim and--this is important--they kill because they are trying to be even better Muslims; because killing unbelievers is commanded in the Quran?

Facts are not hate, and the survival instincts of non-Muslims are not hate. The reporter should have said, "Shalabi was able to move beyond the fear of Islam that repeated Muslim terrorist attacks have spread around the world, even among Muslims."

Shalabi was crowned after a campaign by her friends in which they wore headscarves around school. She told KCAL-TV that this was the first time she went to an event like the prom.

"My mom is real strict. She didn't want me to go to homecoming. (The prom) was basically my first party," she said.

It is, in some respects, a sweet story.

Allow me to add some vinegar. Can anyone see a devout Christian being exalted socially in such a way in a deeply Islamic country? Imagine a Christian girl wearing her "traditional" Western short or mid-length dress with her head uncovered in a Pakistani village.

Sure, anything is possible, but a lynching sounds like the most likely outcome. Shalabi should be grateful for the tolerance in the United States that does not exist in large swaths of the Islamic world.

Then there is the real threat of honor violence against Muslim young ladies like Shalabi; girls like her who would be beaten up or even killed if they defied their parents wishes and went to a prom or went out with a boy.

This week a 15-year old Pakistani girl was strangled and set on fire for helping her friend elope. Shalabi might have used the occasion to rebuke the Muslim community for the threat of honor violence against girls like her. Hello, SJW's?

Shalabi says she wants to go to college and become a nurse. Pray that she encounters the Truth that will set her free.
