Matt and Sherry McPherson
CBN.com Matt and Sherry’s heart’s desire is to give testimony to their faith and to invite all who are touched by their songs to receive Jesus Christ as their Lord and personal Savior.
Matt and Sherry McPherson come from very musical families, having spent much of their childhood learning to sing and play instruments in a church setting. Matt pursued guitar and pedal steel guitar, and Sherry focused on piano and guitar. While in their teens, they traveled and performed with their respective families. Sherry’s family sang in local churches. Matt’s family traveled as evangelists ministering in churches and high schools.
Matt and Sherry first met in 1979 while playing in a five-piece gospel band. They were vocalists, songwriters and musicians for this band that traveled on weekends promoting a new Christian television network called Faith Broadcasting Network. Eventually they left the group, their relationship grew deeper, and they married. All while continuing to minister on their own.
In the early 1980’s, while attending a 3,800-member church, their pastor asked them to sing for his evangelistic crusades. The Minneapolis area-based evangelistic crusade traveled the surrounding five states and they also spent a month singing in large crusades in the Philippines. Matt and Sherry traveled with this ministry for 18 months before leaving to raise their family and start a business.
Although they continued to be involved in their local church as worship leaders, as well as writing and performing their songs, the next 15 years were largely devoted to raising their family and growing their businesses.
Archery was a serious hobby of Matt’s, an interest which began in his youth. In 1985, he started his first archery company, which he eventually sold. Then in 1991, Matt started Mathews, Inc., an archery company that capitalized on one of Matt’s revolutionary concepts, and enjoyed meteoric growth establishing it now as the leading archery manufacturer in the world!
More recently, Matt started McPherson Guitars, which makes an acoustic guitar that has caught the attention of many of the world’s finest musicians. McPherson Guitars are currently played by many top Christian artists including Steven Curtis Chapman, MercyMe, Newsboys, Caedmon’s Call, and Amy Grant.
Also, Matt was the Executive Producer of a 1999 television documentary called Secrets of the Bible Code Revealed, which won two Telly Awards.
Finally, the remarkable success of Mathews, Inc. has allowed Matt and Sherry to establish their own record company, Autumn Records, and to pursue their love of music. To date, they have produced eight album projects including two of their own, McPherson and their current worship project I Will Rejoice. They are presently in the process of finishing a third contemporary Christian recording titled, Slow Down, which will be completed in 2006.
