Grandma Walks Four Hours for Water

Numyuk lives with her grandmother while her mother works and lives far away. Every day her grandmother walks miles to get water, leaving Numyuk alone at home.

Numyuk’s grandmother, Sayun, said, “It takes two hours to get there and more than two hours to come back.

When CBN's Operation Blessing drilled a deep well in the area, we put one of the taps close to their home, bringing an end to her long walks in search of water. We also enrolled Numyuk in our nearby school, where she is doing very well.

Numyuk said, “I am learning to read and write. My favorite subjects are mathematics and Swahili, and I am the top student in my class. At lunch, we eat rice and beans, and then I play with all my friends.  My favorite activities are sliding, dancing, and swinging.”

CBN Reporter, Dan Reany, knows firsthand, all that running around and playing can make you thirsty.  Thanks to Operation Blessing, there’s also water right at the school.

“After recess, I get a drink, and it is so sweet and cold,” said Numyuk.  “It helps me do well in my studies.”

Sayun said, “I appreciate what you have done for the children and for me.”

“When I grow up I want to become a teacher, because I love my teacher so much,” explained Numyuk.  “I want to thank everyone for the water and the school.  Thank You CBN!”
