Iowa Evangelical Leader to Huckabee: 2016 Would Be Time to 'Pull the Trigger'

In an interview you will only see on The Brody File, influential Iowa evangelical leader Bob Vander Plaats, head of The Family Leader organization says that his good friend Mike Huckabee should take a look at his likeability polling numbers in considering a run for president in 2016.

“People like Huckabee and likeability is a key thing in getting elected…he has a likeability factor that very few have so when he takes a look at those numbers if he ever wanted to run for president I think in 2016 this would be the time to pull the trigger,” Vander Plaats tells The Brody File.

He calls Huckabee’s polling numbers on likeability, “Reaganesque.” This weekend, Vander Plaats group hosts a big weekend conference that includes speakers Rick Santorum, Ted Cruz, and Donald Trump.

Vander Plaats, who is well liked and respected by Iowa’s evangelical community, played a huge role in helping determine Iowa’s Republican Caucus winner in 2008 and 2012. He endorsed Mike Huckabee in 2008 and Rick Santorum in 2012.

Bob Vander Plaats: I wish he would have ran in 2012. I really do and I think he would have been our nominee.

In 2016, I think if you’re Governor Huckabee you take a look at making a huge difference with FOX News and radio program but he also has to look at poll numbers and he sees his polling being Reaganesque. People like Huckabee and likeability is a key thing in getting elected…he has a likeability factor that very few have so when he takes a look at those numbers if he ever wanted to run for president I think in 2016 this would be the time to pull the trigger.”
