Brody File Video Exclusive: GOP Majority Leader Talks House Of Cards: "I got no royalties!
In an exclusive interview with The Brody File, new House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy jokes about how actor Kevin Spacey is using a line of his in the popular Netflix drama, “House of Cards.” McCarthy tells members to, “vote your conscience, vote your district, just don’t surprise me.” Well, Spacey know uses that line on the political television drama. We talked about that during a visit with him in his home district of Bakersfield, California. McCarthy wants royalties (well, maybe not)!

House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy: “What I’ve always told the members when being a whip is you vote your conscience, you vote your district, just don’t surprise me. I just want to know what’s going to happen. Just tell me what position you’re at but vote your district, vote your conscience because that’s what we all say and what is our bond when we run. This is our philosophy, this is our principle, you are the individuals that I represent and you’re the voice I want to have heard.”
David Brody: “And how dare Kevin Spacey steal that line!”
House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy: “And I got no royalties!”
David Brody: “That’s right. Are you going to take him to court or something? You’ve got to do something but what has that relationship with Kevin Spacey been like. I know you’re not Kevin Spacey. I know. He’s ruthless.”
House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy: “He does that show on Netflix and I don’t agree with everything on the show but he wanted to see me and I didn’t think it would be smart to see him. You know it’s not going to play well but then I heard he played a democrat so that was ok. The thing I enjoy about Kevin Spacey is he does what he loves. I think if Kevin Spacey only made $100 dollars a week acting he’d still act. I respect anyone who has passion for what they believe in and he came in and asked me about being whip. Everybody has this belief that you really twist arms and others and I said well, I always tell members vote your conscience, vote your district, don’t surprise me. I never knew later, six months later it would end up in a show but it has.”
