Congresswoman Michele Bachmann tells The Brody File that she would run for President in 2012 if she felt an “inner assurance" to do so.

Bachmann also told me that prayer will play a vital role saying that she and her husband will “look to the Lord for guidance and I can’t say enough how important that’s been to us to give us that rock of assurance on which path we should go.”

She also has a message to the people in the early primary states of Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina.

Watch the clips below and you can read the transcriptions, too.

Let’s be clear here. If Bachmann gets in, she will be a force. I’m not saying she’ll win the nomination but she will shake things up. She always seems to be underestimated, especially by the media. But remember, this is an extremely smart woman (check the resume) and she speaks in clear, non-rambling sentences. She communicates well and can raise money.

She has liabilities for sure. But who won’t have liabilities in what is expected to be a crowded GOP field. If Huckabee and Palin don’t get in, Bachmann becomes even a stronger candidate.

David Brody: What’s going to determine whether or not you’re going to run for president in 2012?

Rep. Michele Bachmann: I think it will be an inner assurance more than anything of what I am supposed to do.

We would have to think through very seriously and know this is the right step to take. Until we know that we will not purse that path.

Brody: And that’s where prayer comes in?

Bachmann: That’s where prayer comes in. We’re strong people of faith. My husband and I gave our lives to the Lord when we were 16 years of age and so that’s been a long time now.

We’re both almost 55 years old and that has been the greatest help and source of stability for both of us to have that ability in prayer to look to the Lord for guidance. And I can’t say enough how important that’s been to us to give us that rock of assurance on which path we should go.

Bachmann: On her prospects for running for President in 2012:

Bachman: I’m aligning myself with the people of the United States, in particular with the 6th district of Minnesota where I'm privileged to represent them but I think the voters in particular, in Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina, Nevada, they have a tremendous opportunity.

But also, a sacred duty, if you will, because they will be choosing our next nominee and 2012 is a crucial window. Again, we have to get the policy right in 2012, or we could be looking at a vast sea of red ink. The United States of America now, think of this. The greatest nation that has ever been known in the annals in history, we could become a Greece if we don't reverse course, quickly.
