Herman Cain, who is expected to run for President, tells The Brody File that despite his long shot prospects he’s going to raise a lot of money and says if “you don’t have the right message and you’re not the right messenger, money won’t matter.”

He then took a shot at Mitt Romney when he told me Romney’s “got a lot of money and he didn’t win the last time with all that money…that doesn’t necessarily guarantee being able to win the nomination.”

Watch the video clip below as well as the transcription.

Ralph Reed, Chairman of the Faith and Freedom Coalition told me in Iowa last week that if Huckabee and Palin DO NOT run in Iowa, then Herman Cain could make a serious run in Iowa.

David Brody: How do you get there financially?

Herman Cain: Two ways. One, I’ve had to put in a little bit of seed money of my own which I didn’t mind doing. I’m not a “cajillionaire.”(Loads of money) My middle name is not Meg Whitman so I won’t be writing a check like that to try and buy an Election. No.

Secondly, there are a lot of people from around this country that are very well to do that are stepping up and helping me raise money. All of the big money people that have supported conservatives in the past they are now telling me they’re a candidate they can get excited about and they’ve had the potential to do more in the past but they simply didn’t because they weren’t excited about the conservative candidates that were running.

So what I’m finding is I’m having no problem raising money now at this early phase. It’s going to go up exponentially as we continue to meet more people, as people get more and more familiar with me so at this point  We’re not concerned about being able to raise enough money to be competitive.>/em>

I don’t follow the model that you’ve got to raise the greatest amount of money because if you have the greatest amount of money but you don’t have the right message and you’re not the right messenger. money won’t matter.

Brody: Mitt Romney. He’s got a lot of money.

Cain: He’s got a lot of money and he didn’t win the last time with all that money. I respect Mitt Romney. I think he’s a very good businessman. But there are some criticisms out there. But money won’t be an issue for him and understandably. But that doesn’t necessarily guarantee being able to win the nomination.
