Please Welcome The Birth Of "Cruzorina"

04-28-2016

The Cruz campaign is proud to announce the birth of, “Cruzorina.” Born at 4pm ET on Wednesday April 27th.

Honestly, I feel like I’m living in The Twilight Zone.” It’s like this presidential campaign has morphed into an alternate universe where you’re never quite sure what’s reality or what’s fiction. So let me get this straight: Carly Fiorina is Ted Cruz’s VP choice even though he has been mathematically eliminated from contention? What’s coming next? Will John Kasich announce his White House Chief of Staff?

Look, I get it. Cruz had to do something so he went for it. The status quo was clearly not working. We’ll see if this move makes a difference. It’s hard for me to imagine voters who are now suddenly energized to go vote for Cruz because Carly Fiorina is on the ticket. In this day and age of reality TV, you can make the argument that Phil Robertson from Duck Dynasty might help him more with evangelicals!

Let’s start with this: the Fiorina VP pick (which is really not a VP pick until it actually becomes an VP pick) is a smart one. She’s a smart, accomplished, conservative woman who would help combat the, “war on women” narrative that Hillary will let fly in the General Election.  Secondly, the typical VP nominee is used as an attack dog and Fiorina is excellent at that.  Third, the establishment likes her, which will potentially help Cruz smooth over relationships in Washington. Finally, she brings some cheerful, humanness to the campaign.  Cruz is a bit awkward on the trail. She’ll help the ticket (oh wait, it’s NOT a ticket) in  a way that’s more easier to digest.

Having said all that, my goodness, that smacks of being an overtly political move. It’s Indiana or bust for Cruz so he’s been forced into making this move earlier than he would have liked. Since it feels political, it may help Trump to a degree because it plays into his narrative that Cruz is just a typical politician.

We now wait to see how, “Cruzorina” plays out. It may be a winning ticket that never sees the light of day.

Oh, one last thing. Memo to Carly: I would keep the singing confined to the shower. Campaign trail singing just sounds a bit creepy. You have a nice voice but I’m not a big fan of politicians breaking out in song in the middle of a stump speech. But if the “hypothetical VP nominee thing” doesn’t work out, you might want to audition for, “The Voice” on NBC.
