Trump’s Natural Gut Instinct

Both liberals and “Never Trump” conservatives will write plenty of critical articles about the GOP presidential nominee, but let’s point out one key quality he has in spades that nobody else had this presidential cycle: gut instinct and the ability to brand it effectively.

Two examples: Ted Cruz and Hillary Clinton.

He’s been calling his general election opponent, “Crooked Hillary,” from the start. There’s been plenty of evidence to make that case, but now, with the FBI once again investigating her private email server, he has the ultimate card to play in his Hillary narrative.

You see, here’s the deal: It’s one thing to try and paint someone a certain way, but it’s Trump's gut instinct that realizes he has a winning hand to play and is bold enough to play it.  Now, granted, it wouldn’t be effective if he didn’t have the goods, but this FBI news gives him the ultimate “I told you so” moment, which just adds to his credibility. In addition, the fact that he had a "gut instinct" on Anthony Weiner being around sensitive information was pretty good too.

With Ted Cruz, he labeled him, “Lyin Ted.” It wouldn’t have stuck if Cruz didn’t feed the narrative but he did. Google “Iowa Caucus, Ben Carson, Ted Cruz.” I don’t think I need to remind you. I’m not saying what’s true or what’s not. I’m just saying Trump has this uncanny ability to peg a person with a title and then watch the evidence surface.

Luck? Hardly. Trump’s gut instincts brought him success in the business world and he’s taken those gut instincts into the political world. You can call it lucky if you want. I think that’s selling him short. I call it, “street smarts,” the ability to pick up a vibe. He’s a New Yorker. New Yorkers are pretty good at seeing through people. Trump is putting his New York gut instincts on display and it’s working to perfection.
