Jim DeMint To Brody File: GOP Leaders Caved To Fear, Public Pressure On Healthcare Bill

03-09-2017

In an exclusive interview with The Brody File, Heritage Foundation President Jim DeMint says the new healthcare bill put forward by GOP Leaders is, ‘convoluted” and ultimately was a decision and bill based on fear.  “I think republicans were afraid that they could not deal with the public pressure if they repealed it and didn’t have an immediate fix it place.” DeMint spoke with me Thursday afternoon in DC.

DeMint wants to see the GOP repeal Obamacare first and then work on the solution after that. He says President Trump and republicans promised voters first and foremost that they would repeal it.  He says an immediate repeal wouldn’t leave people without health insurance right away so the GOP would be able to come up with a real serious fix to do it right. He expressed these comments when he met with President Trump at The White House Wednesday. Demint says the president seemed a lot more receptive to his ideas than what they were hearing from GOP leaders.
