No Safety in a Plastic House

Roxana’s husband died in waters of the Pacific Ocean in El Salvador.  He had been trying to rescue another fisherman who had fallen overboard.

When he didn’t return home that day, Roxana and her daughter struggled to survive.

“I realized that I needed to be both mother and father to our daughter Dayana,” said Roxana.

With no income, they lost their home.  Roxana was forced to move into this house wrapped with plastic.

“That place was not secure for us,” she remembered with fear in her voice. “One night, a man tried to come in while we were sleeping.”

Roxana grew desperate to keep her daughter safe.

“I told my daughter not to cry, that we would find a better house,” said Roxana.

“I asked God to help my mama not to be sad,” added 10-year-old Dayana.

Roxana moved in temporarily with her mom, but space was cramped.  Roxana had to leave Dayana each morning to sell fish to provide food for their needs.  But sales were small and her income limited.

Then Operation Blessing learned about Roxana and her daughter.  First we built them a new house.

“I feel very happy and grateful.,” said Roxana. “The house is so pretty and much and everything about it is perfect!”

Then we gave Roxana what she needed to set up a convenience store in front of her new home.  Now she doesn’t have to leave her daughter for long hours to sell fish.

“It is a great blessing. Now my daughter and I feel safe,” said Roxana.  “The grocery store—it is such a great blessing. It has brought us out of great need!”

“I thank Operation Blessing for giving us this precious house!” added Dayana.
