Behind The Mighty Macs

CBN.com - The Mighty Macs is a new movie based on the inspirational true story of an all girls basketball team that rose from obscurity to become national champions.

The film, produced by Quaker Media Productions, tells the true story of Cathy Rush, a woman before her time who transformed the 1971/72 Immaculata College basketball team into national champions.  The school is run by nuns and has no gymnasium, little support, and even less money. Undeterred by these challenges, Cathy dares to believe that dreams really can come true.

Carla Gugino stars as Cathy Rush alongside Ellen Burstyn, Marley Shelton and David Boreanaz.

When asked what she thought about Cathy Rush, Gugino replied, “She didn’t set out to change the world. She really just set out to do what was right and what she believed in and ultimately left a legacy because of that.”

David Boreanaz plays Cathy's husband, Ed Rush.

“It’s a story of adversity, overcoming one’s own fears to go out and say I can do this,” Boreanaz said of the film.

Academy Award winner Ellen Burstyn plays Mother St. John, the head of Immaculata College who eventually becomes one of Cathy’s biggest supporters and cheerleaders in the film.

“She took a shot. She said, ‘I have a feeling I want to do this,’” Burstyn said of Cathy Rush. “’And I don’t want to live my life regretting that I didn’t do something that I had an impulse to do,’ and she was right.”

The Mighty Macs is rated PG.
