What Can Two Feet of Rain in 24 Hours Do?

When a historic flash flood hit Pensacola, Florida, many families lost practically everything they owned. The Hunter family was one of them.

"When I saw what happened to the house, I was devastated," says Nancy Hunter. "We lost so much."

Nancy and Tony Hunter both serve others, working as nurses. They have insurance, but it'll only cover half of what they lost. The first step they needed to take was gutting their home before mold set in. But they had no one to help them.

"When we realized how much work we had to do we were overwhelmed," says Nancy. "We just didn't know what to do."

"I'm not a young man anymore, so if I had to face this on my own it would have been pretty difficult," says Tony.

That's when Operation Blessing arrived with dozens of volunteers, who immediately got to work helping the Hunters salvage as many personal belongings as they could.

"When I heard about (Operation Blessing coming to help me) I started crying and I've been crying since. It's a huge blessing," says Tony.

Operation Blessing was able to completely gut their home, tearing out drywall and wet carpet before mold set in.

Tony says in spite of all they've been through, he still feels blessed. "A lot of my family photos and keepsakes are gone. But my wife's doing great, my adopted daughter Sarah's doing great. God's still on the throne. My faith's never been stronger; my worship's never been stronger. God's good."
