Kenyans Pray for Peace

I would like to thank the many Africa Matters readers who took the time to write in this week with their views of the current crisis in Kenya.  I am appearing on Christian World News today to discuss all the feedback I've been getting.

Here are a few more notes I've gotten in the past week.  Keep those letters coming...as we all, regardless of race, gender or tribe continue to pray for the peace of Kenya.

Millicent in Kenya writes:

"(It) is a Spiritual battle and we can only pray for Jehovah to intervene....I don't know what to do say about the opposition other than the best we can do is pray for peace of God."

Another Kenyan writes:

"I read with interest the recent article about politicians paying people top orchestrate the violence. Now am writing to you first as a born again christian and 2nd as a Kenyan from the Kenyan community that is being killed. As i write to you my family has been displaced....

Kenya is a Christian nation.  Ninety percent of the population profess some form of Christian background. Churches accross the world have always been a place of refuge, a safe place. During previous clashes in Kenya families camped at churches for months and no one ever attqacked (sic.) them so long as they were within the church compound. Now we are getting reports of churches being torched.

You may recall what happened to Rwanda. And what did the world do? Nothing, until it was too late and millions lay dead. What is the world doing about Kenya right now? Nothing as it were. The only good thing is that:   WE ARE LOOKING UP TO THE HILLS FROM WHENCE COMES OUR HELP!!!

Emma in Kenya writes:

"I am writing this from Kenya - my once peaceful country but now shattered and at the verge of sinking never to be recovered.

The question is not tribal but robbery of democracy.  We went out in large numbers to vote because we wanted change and the PNU team rigged the elections. This is why people are fighting because they feel cheated and have resorted to the only way they know that they can be heard - violence against one another....

Out of desperation, pain and anger, people have ended up releasing anger and frustration onto the wrong people our neighbours and friends.  We believe it is the only chance we have to have justice done to us the voters - we voted Raila and God is our witness."

I would like to hear from you.  Please send me an e-mail with your thoughts...

Sarah
