Chicago Cubs End 108-Year Drought, Win World Series

The Chicago Cubs have done it. They ended a 108-year drought by clinching the championship in a dramatic conclusion to Game 7 of the World Series Wednesday night.

The team beat the Cleveland Indians 8-7 in the tenth inning, but they nearly let it get away after All-Star closer Aroldis Chapman blew a three-run lead with two outs in the eighth.

But the Cubs came right back as the game went into extra innings after a 17-minute rain delay.

Ben Zobrist hit an RBI double at the top of the tenth to put the Cubs back on top. With the help of Miguel Montero and Rajai Davis, they were able to hold that lead for the win.

That RBI is just one reason Zobrist was named MVP of the series.

Coach Joe Maddon has been with Zobrist since his early playing days with the Devil Rays.

"Who sets a better example of how to work an at-bat?" Maddon rhetorically asked during an interview. "Here's a guy that he's in his mid-30s, and his work ethic is incredible to watch, what he does after games, not before games, after games, to be ready for the next day and his dedication."

It paid off big for the second baseman and the baseball club who became the first to overcome a 3-1 Series deficit since the 1985 Kansas City Royals.
