New Diet Pepsi, Sans Aspartame, to Hit Stores
08-12-2015
A new version of Diet Pepsi soon to hit store shelves doesn't include aspartame, the artificial sweeterner used in nutra-sweet.
Instead, the new formula is sweetened with Splenda and an additive called "Ace-K."
Sales of diet sodas have been falling. Consumers have been concerned about aspartame.
Pepsi officials are hoping the aspartame-free version will boost the sales of Diet Pepsi.
"It's the number one thing that our customers have been calling about," Seth Kaufman, a senior vice president at Pepsico, said.
The new Diet Pepsi begins appearing this week although some stores may still have bottles and cans with the old version on the shelves.
