JERUSALEM, Israel -- Col. Oliver North told CBN News that Americans need to understand the connection between Israel and the United States.

This week, North addressed the annual meeting of the Knesset Christian Allies Caucus in Jerusalem. The 10-year-old caucus joins Christian organizations and Israel's parliament to support the Jewish state.

"What happens to Israel happens to us. Their enemies are our enemies. Their friends are our friends -- and the destiny of our country," North told CBN News.

"Ronald Reagan said we have a rendezvous with destiny. The destiny of our country is tied intrinsically to the destiny of this country," he continued.

"We in America need never forget that and they need to know there are people like us who worship the same God who pray every day for this country," he said.

North also told CBN News Iran's nuclear program poses an existential threat to Israel and that Israel is facing enormous pressure to give up land for an illusive peace.

He said that peace won't happen because the enemies of Israel don't want it to happen.
