JERUSALEM, Israel -- Summer's here and for residents of the Gaza Strip, that means terror training camps.

This summer, the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades, the "military" wing of Hamas, is boasting an enrollment of 25,000 Gazans, aged 15 to 60, to prepare "spiritually, intellectually and physically" for their role in the "liberation" of Palestine from its "Zionist occupiers."

The Hamas charter does not acknowledge Israel's right to exist. Like the Ramallah-based Fatah faction, Hamas plans to replace the State of Israel with a Palestinian state.

Meanwhile, the Israel Defense Forces began a three-day military drill Monday involving a large-scale call-up of reservists.

"This is one of the largest reservist telephone call-ups we've had in an exercise," the Jerusalem Post quoted a senior source in the military, who said the exercise is one of several this year testing the IDF's readiness.

The drill involves ground, air and naval forces. In the south, troops will drill responses to mock rocket attacks, while the Home Front Command will practice search and rescue missions.

Cyber defenses and coordinating emergency responses are also part of the three-day exercise.

Israelis can expect to see more troop movement than usual around schools, shopping malls and central bus stations.
