Policewoman Killed in Terror Attack at Jerusalem's Old City

JERUSALEM, Israel – Three Palestinian Arabs killed an Israeli border policewoman and wounded five others outside the Damascus Gate in Jerusalem's Old City.

The combined shooting and stabbing attack took place around 7:30 Friday evening despite beefed up security in the Old City on the third Friday of Ramadan.

Police shot and killed the three attackers, armed with semi-automatic weapons and knives.

Staff Sgt. Hadas Malka, 23, died shortly after being evacuated in critical condition to Jerusalem's Hadassah Hospital on Mt. Scopus.

Malka, who joined the Border Police 15 months ago, is survived by her parents, three sisters and two brothers.

According to police reports, two of the attackers opened fire on police while a third stabbed the policewoman.

Three Israeli security personnel and two civilians were injured. They were transported to Jerusalem's Shaare Tzedek Hospital for futher treatment.

With eight days remaining of Ramadan, Israeli security forces are reassessing the situation in an effort to keep the area safe for all residents and visitors to the city.
