JERUSALEM, Israel – President Trump's special international representative Jason Greenblatt arrives in Israel Monday for meetings with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas.

His arrival follows a weekend phone call between Trump and Abbas and an invitation to the P.A. leader to visit the White House in the near future.

Greenblatt, an Orthodox Jewish real estate attorney, has served as legal advisor to Trump for nearly two decades.

Trump has pledged to broker a peace deal between Israel and the Palestinian Authority.

According to a statement released by the White House, a negotiated settlement can only come from direct talks between the two sides and the U.S. would not attempt to impose a solution.

Since Trump's inauguration on January 20, he's spoken at least twice with Netanyahu and met with him last month at the White House.

Netanyahu and Greenblatt will discuss Trump's campaign promise to move the U.S. Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. They will also talk about construction plans in Israeli towns and cities in Judea and Samaria.

Netanyahu has promised the families evicted from the settlement of Amona last month that they will be able to establish a new community to replace what the government demolished.
