Gov. Kasich at Regent: 'Zero' Compromise with ISIS

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- Republican presidential candidate John Kasich vowed to unite America and restore our national strength if he were elected.

Kasich made the comments during a Presidential Candidate Forum hosted by Regent University. The forums have provided candidates the opportunity to share their campaign platforms in a balanced, non-debate format.

Kasich said he's running for president to bring Americans together, restore our nation's strength, and make the world a safer, more secure place.

During the forum, live-streamed by CBN News, Kasich covered topics ranging from the economy to the ISIS attacks in Paris to Syrian refugees.

"We are facing a group that is intent on destroying our very way of life," Kasich said about ISIS. "They want to destroy who we are, how we think and there can be, unfortunately, zero compromise with this group. We can't delay, we have to act, and we have to act quickly."

Kasich said it's not possible to beat ISIS with a bombing campaign. He said instead we must first develop a coalition made up of our allies in Europe and other enemies of ISIS in the Middle East, then together, defeat ISIS where it exists.

On the Syrian refugee issue, Kasich called for sanctuary cities to be created in the Mideast, where families from war torn cities can go.

"We can rely on the Jordanians and the Kurds to be able to make sure that any incursion into that sanctuary can be repelled," Kasich explained.

"The United States can provide the air support and the Jordanians and the Kurds can protect the people who live in the sanctuaries, so the refugees don't have to find their way out of the Middle East," he said.

Kasich said he would balance the U.S. budget by following the same formula he used to turn an $8 billion shortfall in Ohio into a $2 billion surplus.

"Restrain spending and reduce taxes," he said. "By restraining spending and cutting taxes you get growth and you get restraint and it leads to a balanced budget and it works every time and it can work again."

He added that the American people, as well as the rest of the world, need a U.S. president that is steady, strong, determined and mature.

"Walking around talking about blowing things up is for the amatuers," he said.

"People need to see strength, they need to see that you're in control, and they need to know that you have the inner strength to do what needs to be done," Kasich said.
