Could Donald Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, be in line to be the president-elect's chief of staff?

While Trump met with President Barack Obama at the White House Thursday, Kushner was seen walking the South Lawn with Obama's chief of staff, Denis McDonough.

The 35-year-old Kushner, who served as Trump's shadow campaign manager and is married to Trump's eldest daughter, Ivanka, is a real estate developer and owner of the New York Observer newspaper.

A Harvard graduate, Kushner was raised in an Orthodox Jewish family in New Jersey and is the grandson of Holocaust survivors.

Ivanka Trump converted to Judaism when she married Kushner.

When Trump was accused of anti-Semitism during the campaign, Kushner wrote, "The fact is that my father-in-law is an incredibly loving and tolerant person who has embraced my family and our Judaism since I began dating my wife. His support has been unwavering and from the heart. I have personally seen him embrace people of all racial and religious backgrounds, at his companies and in his personal life."

His father, Charles Kushner, a real estate magnate, was sent to federal prison in 2005 for tax evasion by New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who was then a U.S. attorney and is now a Trump adviser.
