'Pocahontas Is Getting Slammed': Trump Mocks Elizabeth Warren, Cherokee Leader Blasts DNA Test

US Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) released DNA results this week that she says prove her Native American heritage.

In a campaign-style video, Warren released the report, taking aim at President Donald Trump for repeatedly mocking her over her ancestry claims, calling her "Pocahontas." She noted he went so far as to offer $1 million to a charity of her choice if she took a DNA test that proved her assertions were true.

"By the way, @realDonaldTrump: Remember saying on 7/5 that you'd give $1M to a charity of my choice if my DNA showed Native American ancestry? I remember – and here's the verdict. Please send the check to the National Indigenous Women's Resource Center," the Massachusetts lawmaker tweeted.

But on the same day Warren released the report, the Cherokee Nation called DNA tests useless for determining tribal citizenship. The tribe also suggested that taking such a test was "inappropriate," saying that it undermines tribal interests.

"Using a DNA test to lay claim to any connection to the Cherokee Nation or any tribal nation, even vaguely, is inappropriate and wrong," said Chuck Hoskin Jr., the tribe's secretary of state.

"It makes a mockery out of DNA tests and its legitimate uses while also dishonoring legitimate tribal governments and their citizens, whose ancestors are well documented and whose heritage is proven," he charged. "Sen. Warren is undermining tribal interests with her continued claims of tribal heritage."

Meanwhile, President Donald Trump is doubling down on his attacks on Warren, tweeting Tuesday, "Thank you to the Cherokee Nation for revealing that Elizabeth Warren, sometimes referred to as Pocahontas, is a complete and total Fraud!"
