Bernie's New Speech Writer Was a Big Fan of Venezuelan Socialism

Democratic presidential contender Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) has a new speech writer and communications director who's applauded the socialism of Venezuela in the past.

According to the Washington Examiner, Sanders hired David Sirota this week. The Examiner reports he wrote a defense of dictator Hugo Chavez following his death in 2013, calling Chavez' rule over Venezuela an "economic miracle."

Sirota wrote in part about what appeared at the time to be socialistic, economic success in Venezuela, saying:

"It suddenly looks like a threat to the corporate capitalism, especially when said country has valuable oil resources that global powerhouses like the United States rely on."

The Examiner's Joseph Simonson wrote, "Six years after Sirota's column, Venezuela is currently teetering on complete economic and social collapse."

CBN News has covered the socialist collapse of Venezuela extensively. Our reporter Chuck Holton is in the region covering the humanitarian crisis and the latest efforts by Operation Blessing to help the victims of Venezuela.
