Pence Asks Judge to Toss Case That Tries to Expand Vice-Presidential Power to Reject State Electors

Vice President Mike Pence has filed a petition asking a judge to reject a lawsuit aimed at expanding his power to overturn the presidential election when the US Senate meets to approve the electoral vote.

Texas Congressman Louis Gohmert filed the suit that claims an 1887 law gives the vice president the right to determine and reject the validity of each state's electors.

As president of the Senate, the vice president is constitutionally tasked with certifying the Electoral College votes in Congress on Jan. 6th.

Missouri Republican Sen. Josh Hawley is joining a growing number of House Republicans planning to protest the certification of electors from certain states where they cite voting irregularities.
