Md. College Student Denied Admission over Faith

09-08-2014

The American Center for Law and Justice is suing a local Maryland college for denying a man admission because of his faith.

The Community College of Baltimore County rejected Brandon Jenkins' application to their radiation therapy program, saying that he "wore his religious beliefs on his sleeve."

The school's decision came despite the fact Jenkins is otherwise qualified for the position.

On Monday, the ACLJ filed a federal lawsuit on his behalf, demanding that he be accepted into the program.

"Belief in God does not and should not disqualify a student from admission to college," David French, senior counsel at the ACLJ, said in a statement. "The university's blatant and explicit discrimination is intolerable."
